Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Jose Mourinho’s mind games are giving the Blues an advantage in the title race.
However, with City having three games in hand and a superior gaol difference, meaning that a nine-point haul would see them leapfrog the Chelsea.
Mourinho quickly drew attention to this after the Spurs win, insisting that he would rather be in his rivals’ position.
Hasselbaink believes that comments like this from the Blues chief are helping his side to close in on the title by putting added pressure on Manuel Pellegrini’s men:
Not only is he managing expectations but he’s just putting a little bit more pressure on Manchester City.” He told talkSPORT.
“He’s letting everybody notice that they have to win, they have the better squad, the better players and that he’s building and what a magnificent job he’s doing if they get second or first.”
However Hasselbaink says that he does not believe Mourinho latest statement:
“I’d rather have the nine points than have to play three games and it doesn’t matter who I have to play against. At this stage of the competition everybody is fighting for their lives, you don’t want to play anybody in the bottom three or anyone at the top.
“Maybe [you would want] people who are already safe but they might be playing for Europe so it’s better to have the points in the bag and Jose Mourinho knows that.”
