Wayne Rooney has been the story of the past 24 hours or so. If you’ve been living under a rock, the Manchester United and England skipper will be benched for tonight’s World Cup qualifier in Slovenia, with stand-in manager Gareth Southgate having made the bold call to drop the nation’s misfiring striker/midfielder/who knows anymore.

Although a huge section of supporters and many pundits have been calling for Rooney to be removed from the limelight, the reaction has revealed that there remains a divide in terms of ‘Wazza’, with swathes of people having come out in defence of the 30-year-old now.

One man to wade into the saga is John Terry, a man who knows a thing or two about England controversy. He took to Instagram to post this message…

Fair play to Terry. The Chelsea defender gets a hard time for his off-field persona, but he’s shown a real level of heart with his latest social media move.
