Chelsea are the latest Premier League side to wade into the battle for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, according to reports from The Metro.

The World Cup-winning Spain international looks set to leave the Nou Camp in the coming months, with speculation suggesting that the Catalans are ready to accept offers of around £30m for his signature as they go about a summer overhaul.

Manchester United and Arsenal have been the sides most strongly linked with the classy playmaker, but now the Blues have emerged as contenders.

Chelsea chief Jose Mourinho is rumoured t be desperate to add quality to his central ranks, and will have the funds in place to land a top class player when David Luiz’s proposed £48m move to PSG goes through.

The London club were criticised for a lack of creativity and invention when going forward last term, and Fabregas is seen as the ideal player to get the best out of the club’s front line, which could well include Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa by the time 2014/15 kicks off.

Mourinho is thought to be lining up an initial bid for the ex-Arsenal ace, yet he is rumoured to be reluctant to go north of £25m.
