Chelsea are set to be left frustrated in their attempted bid to sign Edinson Cavani from Napoli, with the Daily Express reporting that Paris St Germain are set to close a deal for the striker in a matter of hours.
Cavani’s future has been one of the biggest questions of the summer, with the likes of Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and La Liga’s Real Madrid all being linked to the Uruguayan striker.
It appears that the mega-rich French club have won the race however, with reports in Spanish newspaper Marca suggesting the club have agreed a £55million deal for the forward.
In addition, Cavani is set to earn a staggering £8.5million a season to play in Paris, with the deal expected to be officially announced later today.
The news will come as a blow to Chelsea who had pinpointed Cavani as their number one transfer target this summer. The club have not had much luck with regards to signing a striker this summer, with other top target Radamel Falcao also opting for a move to France to join AS Monaco.
26-year-old Cavani enjoyed arguably the best campaign of his career last season, which saw him fire 36 goals in all competitions.
