legend and former manager Ruud Gullit has urged the Blues to ditch Fernando Torres and bring in Atletico Madrid striker Ramodel Falcao, according to the Daily Mail.

The Spain international is yet to return to his previous best that saw him net 65 goals in 102 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League before his £50million move to Stamford Bridge in January 2011. In nearly two years at the London club, Torres has just 13 league goals to his name.

Gullit has now openly criticised the Chelsea striker, and believes the club should look elsewhere to find a more prolific first-team striker.

“What he did in the past with Atletico, and Liverpool especially, was unbelievable,” said the former Dutch international. “For some reason he can't do it at Chelsea, it's a mystery to me.

“I said at the beginning of the season that Chelsea might need another striker but obviously they wanted to give Torres a chance. If he has taken it, I don't know.

The former Newcastle and Feyenoord head coach believes strike sensation Ramodel Falcao is the perfect candidate to replace the mis-firing Spaniard.

“If he can't still do it at Chelsea, then they are going to have to look somewhere else. I think Falcao is a very good striker."

The Columbian international has scored 13 times this season, including a hat-trick against the Blues in the European Super Cup, but comes with a hefty £48million price-tag.

Manchester City and Real Madrid are also in the race for the player’s signature, but Chelsea have a unique opportunity to broker a deal that would re-unite Torres with his beloved Atletico Madrid in a swap for the sharpshooting Falcao.
