Barcelona have made a £30million bid for defender David Luiz, although Chelsea are adamant they will not be selling the Brazilian for that price, according to the Daily Mail.

Barca have identified that their weaknesses currently lie in the defensive department, and see Luiz as the perfect long term successor to club legend Carlos Puyol.

It is not known whether Luiz is keen on a move, with sources revealing it currently stands at 50/50 as to whether he will start next season at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz has been a fans' favourite since signing from Benfica in January 2011. He has since won the FA Cup, the Champions League and Europa League with the club, and last season saw him produce his most impressive form in a Blues shirt, both at centre back and as a holding midfielder.

The defender has often stated his happiness in West London, although it remains to be seen whether the temptation to sign for Europe's strongest team proves too much. A move to the Nou Camp would also give Luiz the chance to link up with Brazilian team mates Dani Alves and the recently acquired Neymar.

Luiz has been identified as their number one target, with Puyol often struggling with injuries over the past season, and Alex Song and Javier Mascherano failing to impress as cover.
