Chelsea have targeted Southampton left-back Luke Shaw as the future replacement for Ashley Cole.

The two Premier League clubs have opened talks for a transfer move and, according to Daily Mail, the Saints rejected a £10 million bid in the last January window.

The name of Chelsea's manager for next season remains uncertain, but Shaw's signing seems to have become a priority at Stamford Bridge, in hopes of finding a replacement for Ashley Cole.

The 32 year-old international will be the Blues' first-choice until the end of next season after having signed a 12-month extension to his contract.

However, the club still plan a summer move for the 17 year-old talent, and could consider the possibility of loaning him to Southampton to continue with his progression during the 13/14 season.

Arsenal have also put an eye in the defender, although Chelsea seem to lead the race as conversations are with Southampton are advanced.

Shaw's performance in his first Premier League season has not gone unnoticed to anyone. The Under-17 international was recently called up by Stuart Pierce for England's Under-21 friendly game against Sweden, although he was forced to pulled out due to an injury.
