Chelsea had an active offseason this summer, saying goodbye to veterans Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Samuel Eto’o and David Luiz. They replaced that foursome with solid performers in Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis, and the return of Didier Drogba.
In addition to those four, Jose Mourinho finally brought Thibaut Courtois to Stamford Bridge, the former Atletico Madrid keeper who led the La Liga club to the top of the league table and a runner-up performance in the Champions League. He spent the last three seasons on loan with Atletico.
Mourinho hasn’t revealed who will be the top keeper for Chelsea to start the season, as both he and Petr Cech played 45 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat against Werder Bremen on Sunday.
Courtois started the first half, and many expect him to win the job given his form after playing in the World Cup with Belgium. He made his presence known right away in Sunday’s match, making a phenomenal save in the first half, much to the delight of captain John Terry, who immediately congratulated him.
