Chelsea are pondering a move for Nantes’ in-form centre-back Papy Djilobodji, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 25-year-old defender has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s top talents of late, after helping his newly promoted side mount a challenge for European qualification.

Despite being new to the top tier this term Nantes have only conceded just 17 goals, with the Senegalese ace having been a key cog in their backline.

His fine displays have caught the eye of Jose Mourinho, who is thought to be keen to lure a new enforcer to Stamford Bridge.

With David Luiz said to be nearing a move to Bayern Munich or Barcelona and John Terry entering the final stages of his career, ‘The Special One’ has made a new centre-back a priority.

Djilobodji is seen as a viable option, with the 6ft. 4” star having developed a reputation as a tough-tackling and dependable defender.

Borussia Dortmund are also keen, and the African ace has confessed that he would be open to a big move:

“I want to play in big clubs competing in the Champions League and win it.

“The road is still long but I work every day to make that happen.”
