Thibaut Courtois has moved to distance himself from speculation surrounding a summer move by claiming that Chelsea are keen to keep him at the club.
The Belgian stopper is rated as one of European football’s very best young players in his position, but there have been doubts as to whether or not he features in the Blues’ plans.
Courtois is currently in his third season away from Stamford Bridge on loan with Atletico Madrid, whom he signed for immediately upon sealing a switch to West London from Genk.
The 21-year-old has already expressed a desire to play regularly next season, and with Chelsea having Petr Cech established as their number one the situation surrounding the young ‘keeper has been unclear for some time.
Both Atletico and cross-town rivals Real Madrid have been linked with moves for his services, but Courtois says that he is likely to stay with his parent club:
“I’m under contract with Atletico de Madrid until June and have two more years on my deal at Chelsea.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“I’m in Chelsea’s plans and I don’t think they’re willing to sell me.
“I think some people are trying to unsettle the team, but I’m relaxed.”
