Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has been left in the dark with regards to the long term future of Frank Lampard, as contract talks are yet to begin.

Lampard has been a loyal, long serving member of the Chelsea revolution since his arrival from West Ham but along with the likes of John Terry and Ashley Cole, the future may lie outside of West London.

"Ultimately that's between the player and the club to agree a new arrangement," Di Matteo told Sky Sports.

"I'm not aware how the discussions are going at the moment.

"If there's willingness from both sides, he will remain with us.

"He's been a fantastic player for us over a decade, so it would be nice for him to finish his career here.

"The players know that I would like them to stay.

"They are fantastic players who have always performed to a high level for us, for myself, too.

"I've told them that. I hope they will stay."
