Former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino is confident that Cesc Fabregas is returning to the Premier League with a “point to prove” and that he will help the Blues to win the title for the first time in five years.

The Stamford Bridge outfit swooped for the ex-Arsenal captain earlier this summer, in a move that shocked and angered many Gunners fans given his close ties with north London.

Although it has been suggested that returning to the Emirates Stadium was the Spaniard’s first choice, Chelsea have since spoken out to suggest that that was not the case.

With his wealth of experience and proven track record and club and international level, Fabregas is widely seen as one of the better signings of the current window despite his hefty price tag, and Cascarino believes that, in tandem with fellow newbie Diego Costa, he will help fire Chelsea to the title:

"It's a real smart one signing Fabregas. He gives them something different because it's a guy who's got a bit of a point to prove. Arsenal fans will tell you how good he was for them.” He told talkSPORT.

"You can look at [Juan] Mata and think he's quite similar to Fabregas in some ways but Fabregas is a little bit more nastier. I don't mean that in a bad way but he's got that nastiness, where he will put his foot in and win it back a little bit more often. He's got that bit more ability on the ball than Mata.

"The difference if they win the title is going to be their two new signings up front - it’s going to be Fabregas and Costa,

"If they are successful in performing and replacing what [Didier] Drogba and Lampard gave Chelsea, then they will win the league. There is no doubt in my mind they will win the league if those two perform."
