Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has insisted that he is happy as the club’s main striker, but needs time to adapt to his new team-mates.

The Spaniard has struggled to live up to the expectations that came with his £50m arrival from Premier League rivals Liverpool in 2011.

The Blues have drafted in a number of skilful attack minded players to attempt to get him back to his best, but, as of yet he has not performed well on a consistent basis.

Torres feels that his form will improve once the team develop an understanding:

“I’m very happy (being the main striker) because it’s what I have been doing in the past and the role I like to get.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“Hopefully it can be like this until the end of the season. We still have to improve other things as a team but I think we have the players. We need more time.

“It’s just a matter of time and training and being sure that we understand each other. With (Juan) Mata I have been playing for many years in the national team and last season at Chelsea.

“But Oscar and Eden (Hazard) have just arrived and we need to train more to improve.”
