Diego Costa is Atletico’s most obvious threat. The striker, a transfer target for Chelsea this summer, has scored seven Champions League goals this season, being decisive in Atletico’s 1-0 away win at Milan and scoring twice in the second leg. Chelsea will be well aware of the threat he possesses, carrying pace to go along with his battering ram style of attack.
John Terry may have been the obvious name to keep an eye on the Spanish international, but the Chelsea captain’s notable lack of pace will eventually come undone, with Atletico capable of playing the ball over the top for Costa to chase. Gary Cahill, on the other hand, is more mobile than Terry and should be able to handle Costa’s bursts of pace towards the Chelsea goal.
As of yet, some of the biggest teams across Europe have failed to keep Costa quiet. He’s capable of getting under the skin of his important, forcing them into mistakes in the final third. Cahill will need to keep a cool head along with plenty of concentration if he’s to effectively maintain the threat of Costa.
