Chelsea are flying high at the top of the English Premier League and head into the January transfer window in a position of strength.

Still, with Conte joining during the summer his team is not truly his own yet, but this coming window offers the Italian the chance to further stamp his own identity on this Blues squad.

Playing an exciting brand of attacking football while remaining solid at the back, Chelsea are rapidly emerging as the pundits' favourites to win the title this season.

Key to their hopes will be squad strength and Conte likely has a budget to ensure that silverware is achieved.

With the backing of his board, his supporters and his team, Conte has the luxury to go after his top targets and bring in the players he thinks can improve his Chelsea side.

Here are our FIVE players that we reckon should be on Conte's Chelsea Christmas wishlist...

James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez

In James Rodriguez, Chelsea would be getting a world-class player, potentially coming into the best years of his footballing career at the age of just 25.

In what would undoubtedly be a massive money transfer, there's never been a better time to pursue interest in the Real Madrid magician.

The Colombia international has only completed a full 90 minutes once this season for Madrid and is struggling to force his way into a regular first-team starting position.

With the right guidance and an injection of confidence, Rodriguez is a player that could take the Premier League by storm and attracting him to Chelsea should be a priority. If nothing else, the Blues wouldn't want him turning up at a team challenging for the title.

Faouzi Ghoulam

Faouzi Ghoulam is one of the star players in a Napoli side that finished second in Serie A last season. They're also on the brink of qualification for the Last 16 of this season's UEFA Champions League.

His form was so good in 2014/15 prior that he made the UEFA Europa League team of the year which also featured superstars like Gonzalo Higuain and Kevin de Bruyne.

Seen as competition for Marcos Alonso, Ghoulam is a player that can immediately provide a different first team option, while also providing back-up should injuries occur on Chelsea's left-hand side.

This season the defender has made five assists already, demonstrating he would fit well into the exciting 3-4-3 system developing under Conte.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Another Napoli defender that would fit in well at Chelsea would be Senegalese international Kalidou Koulibaly.

The big defender has helped Napoli to five clean sheets this season and is catching the eye of football fans across the continent, hoping that their club is where he'll end up next.

With the ambition and determination to make the rise from French Ligue 2 to Champions League football, Chelsea would be getting a defender full of hunger and who has the best years of his career ahead of him.

With John Terry coming to the end of his career, Koulibaly would be a fine replacement.

Luis Muriel

Muriel has excelled for Serie A side Sampdoria this season, scoring 6 goals and setting up another in 12 starts for the club.

The player is finally starting to deliver on the potential he showed as a youngster at Udinese.

Like James Rodriguez, Muriel is part of the impressive Colombian national team set-up. Offering pace, skill in the dribble and a deadly finish, we reckon he would fit in well at an already free-scoring Chelsea side.

Niklas Sule is a defender who might be THE perfect fit for Conte's Chelsea side. Already playing in a 3-man defence, Sule would require no time to settle into Conte's formation, which is different from your typical defensive set-up.

Sule is just 21 years old and provides plenty of potential for the future, with most of the defenders at Stamford Bridge over the age of 30 or close to it.

At 6'5", the German international is also physically imposing, a positive in the often physical English game.
