Chelsea's striking role has been an area of concern since Didier Drogba entered his decline in about 2011, as Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Diego Costa have all given the Blues their own problems.

Saido Berahino could be the man to finally answer all of these issues. The West Brom youngster handed in a transfer request in the summer and Tony Pulis is probably going to consider selling on one of his most talented players if they receive a big enough offer from the Blues in this window.

Chelsea's requirement for another goal scorer seems slightly lesser now that Costa has returned to some form of sorts, but Berahino could still be of use to Guus Hiddink.

Although the Blues don't know who will be their manager next season, these few months could be a good opportunity to allow Berahino to settle in before a new manager arrives in the summer; assuming Hiddink doesn't take the job permanently!

Here are FIVE reasons Berahino would be the perfect signing...

Inevitable trouble

Costa

Diego Costa brings trouble towards him and, often, outwardly causes it, so he is often found to be missing games through various suspensions or injury.

Considering the significant failings of Falcao and Remy's lack of favour from several successive managers, there is a space open to cover for Costa's absences.

Remy's discontent

Remy

Remy, if he has any sense, will be looking to move on in this window and the ex-QPR man should be looking for a club where he is properly valued.

Despite a very good record at Chelsea, the Frenchman is constantly left out and he understandably is becoming frustrated at this.

Willy to 10

Willian Prove

Considering that he has been Chelsea's best player throughout this campaign, it would make sense if the Blues wanted to slot Willian into the number 10 role a few times in the second half of the season.

Signing Berahino would give the Blues another option on the right hand side and allow Willian to play in a pivotal central role.

English quota..

John Terry

With only a year or two left in Terry's career, Chelsea will need to make sure they can find their next generations of English stars to help them meet the home-grown quota.

Their under utilised youth team can fill in slots, but Berahino would helpfully add to the quota.

Future star

Berahino

Whatever Pulis may say about Berahino, the youngster has the potential to be a star on a worldwide level and could achieve brilliant things at Chelsea.

The Blues don't have a good track record in having patience with potential stars, but Berahino could be the one they get right.
