Rafael Benitez has reignited his long standing feud with Jose Mourinho, by claiming the Chelsea boss sold the clubs ‘best player’ when allowing Juan Mata to join Manchester United, reports the Daily Mail.
Benitez has returned to the UK as his Napoli side take on Swansea City in the Europa League this evening, and although he was adamant he would not discuss his former club Chelsea, the Spaniard could not resist a dig at his rival Mourinho.
“I am not here to talk about Chelsea,” he said. “But Juan was their best player in the last two years. That is it. You can see that, but I am not here to analyse what they did.”
Benitez returns to the Liberty Stadium tonight for the first time since a bizarre incident last season which saw Chelsea winger Eden Hazard sent off for kicking a ball boy.
“He kicked the ball, not boy,” Benitez, then in charge at Chelsea, pointed out.
Meanwhile, Swansea boss Garry Monk has called on his players to use their 3-0 win over Spanish giants Valencia as inspiration for tonight’s fixture.
“I think we need to remember experiences like beating Valencia,” he said.
“It is important for us to highlight that we can beat these teams, that nobody is unbeatable. On paper people say they have the better players but we can compete against them.”
