Chelsea are planning to take on their Premier League rivals to land the signature of Schalke 04 left-back Sead Kolasinac, according to Sky Italia.

What's the word?

The Bosnian left-sided player is believed to have attracted plenty of interest due to his impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

At the age of 23, Kolasinac has already made 81 first-team appearances in the league after breaking through the Schalke youth setup in 2012.

The Metro claims that Liverpool and Arsenal have expressed an interest in the player, but it appears that they face competition from Chelsea.

Sky Italia reports that manager Antonio Conte may try to capture Kolasinac this month as he is not quite convinced with his current wing-back Marcos Alonso, who signed for the club just five months ago.

Is Kolasinac a better option?

Considering that Chelsea have now adopted a 3-4-3 system, players in Kolasinac's position need to be versatile, and he certainly qualifies.

During his career, the young gun has played in various positions, including left winger, centre-back and defensive midfielder, so even though he is predominantly a left-back, he would be comfortable in other areas on the pitch.

What is also impressive about the 6ft Bosnian is that he has a strong physical presence and is rarely knocked off the ball during tussles.

Not only does he have height and strength, Kolasinac possesses pace, which could benefit the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro going forward.

Meanwhile, Conte is also believed to be keeping an eye on Cologne left-back Jonas Hector.
