Inter Milan general director Marco Fassone has confirmed that his side are interested in securing a summer deal for Chelsea’s Fernando Torres.
The once prolific Spaniard has endured a torrid time since his record-breaking £50m move to west London from Liverpool in 2011, and looks set to be axed at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho has been vocal in his criticism of the striker, openly questioning his ability to pose a threat in the biggest games.
Inter have long been linked with Torres, but until now their interest has been mainly based on rumours.
But Fassone, the club’s general director, stated that new owner Erick Thohir is keen to lure the 30-year-old to the San Siro:
“He is one of the names that interests us,” he is quoted by The Mirror.
“Erick Thohir, our President, admitted that a few days ago.
“You will discover in due course exactly which players we are focusing on bringing to the club.”
Torres was one of the most feared forwards in world football while at Liverpool, yet he has been unable to produce the sort of form he displayed at Anfield with any consistency at Chelsea.
