If I was to tell you now that Eden Hazard has reached the top of his potential and will only be on the decline now as a player you would not believe me.

However, these are the views of former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino, who believes that the Belgian will struggle to reach the level of performance he achieved in the 2014/15 season.

It will take some effort on the behalf of Hazard to beat what he achieved last season for Chelsea as he was voted PFA player and Football Writers player of the year after a fantastic campaign where he made the difference for the title winners.

The diminutive Belgium international scored 14 goals for Chelsea last season and laid on a further nine for his teammates in what was Hazard's best season at the Bridge.

Hazard's form and figures have grown each season for the Blues, but surely he hasn't reached his peak already, and last season won't be his all time best?

Cascarino suggests otherwise, saying “I don’t know if he can get better,” Cascarino told Sky Sports. “More goals? Maybe. But his work rate was phenomenal and he was defensively brilliant for the team.

"He really stood out for me and rightly won the player of the year awards. We often look at players and say ‘Is he ever going to reach that level again?’ Normally the answer is no they don’t. Not everyone can be like Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi."

Of course Hazard is not of the standard of Ronaldo or Messi yet, but his potential to be as destructive as them is there for all to see. He is only 24 years old and has already achieved big things in his career, scoring and creating goals in France for Lille and in England, too.

His numbers aren't those of the top strikers in the world, however they may never be because he is not that sort of player. But if numbers are anything to go by to judge a player's growth then there is plenty of room for improvement for the attacking midfielder.

Fourteen goals in 38 league games is a good return for an attacking midfielder, but Hazard himself will admit himself that he would expect to see that number rise next season because he has the right attitude to better himself year in year out.

It is that attitude that epitomizes Hazard. He is willing to work hard and wants to improve. When you put that with his fantastic ability it really is a incredible package, and is what makes Hazard the player he is.

I wouldn't say the season he achieved last time out for the Blues is unrepeatable, instead I would say it is well within Hazard's ability to not only match his achievements of 14/15 but to improve on them massively.

He has huge potential and will only get better, and the former Lille man is so good he will be challenging for the Ballon d'Or in the near future.

Season 14/15 won't be repeated by Hazard, it will be ultimately be exceeded year in year out.
