Chelsea Football Club and the promotion of young talent have not exactly gone hand-in-hand over the course of the past 10-15 years. Roman Abramovich’s millions and the demand for instant success at Stamford Bridge has often seen talented academy products shoved aside, with Josh McEachran the only name to have really come anywhere near breaking the glass ceiling… and he’s been out on loan to five different teams already! So it was quite a surprise to see Ruben Loftus-Cheek handed a chance to impress by Jose Mourinho against Liverpool on Sunday, and the future indeed looks bright for the 19-year-old midfielder.Already tipped to be a first-team star by the Portuguese boss next term, it’s easy to see why there is so much hype surrounding the teenager… and here are FIVE reasons we think he will solve problems for the Blues…[interaction ]

Looks ready for the Premier League

Although he may have ruined the surprise of his start against Liverpool with a less than cryptic Facebook post, it was still quite a story that Loftus-Cheek was in the XI for the game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The 19-year-old was thrust in alongside John Obi Mikel and barely put a foot wrong. His 100% pass accuracy rating in the 60 minutes he played suggests that he’s got the technical quality to be a star, while working in tandem with his Nigerian partner to keep Philippe Coutinho quiet illustrated the positional discipline needed in the Premier League.

Physically suited to Mourinho’s style

Mourinho demands that his players are athletes. Pace and power are key in a Jose side, especially in midfield. The Portuguese manager likes his teams to bully opponents and possess the sort of attributes to ensure that they’re not out-battled, and Loftus-Cheek seems to be suited to that.

Standing at 6ft. 3”, the teenager has the size to compete aerially, while his upper body strength is key in duels. He also possesses pace, with his rangy stride difficult to stop. The perfect partner for Nemanja Matic? Maybe…

Could save Chelsea as much as £70m…

Pogs

With Manchester City ready to pay £70m for Paul Pogba, Chelsea could be forced to offer the same figure should they up their interest in the Frenchman. The 22-year-old is certainly the finished product regardless his tender age, but despite his quality such a vast fee is an issue for the Blues, especially with Financial Fair Play now a big factor.

In truth, Chelsea need attacking reinforcements more than a central midfielder, so using Loftus-Cheek alongside Matic, Cesc Fabregas and John Obi Mikel could free up the funds.

Home grown

Cheek

When John Terry finally steps out of the Blues’ XI, they will have little in the way of home-grown players. The captain moved through the club’s academy to become one of Stamford Bridge’s finest, but there have been very few players to have made similar strides through the years – Frank Lampard was poached from West Ham. Chelsea have English talent, but Loftus-Cheek will help them to meet quota surrounding ‘club made’ players, which is handy in both the Premier League and Champions League.

An example to other Chelsea youngsters

As well as the host of youngsters away from the club on loan, Chelsea’s youth sides are churning out talent. The Blues’ starlets lifted the FA Youth Cup a matter of weeks ago, with players such as Izzy Brown and Tammy Abraham impressing.

The west Londoners have appeared in the final of the competition on four successive occasions now and have lifted the cup four times in the last six years, so the current crop are pretty talented and are now getting to first-team age. If Loftus-Cheek breaks through he will be seen as a success story, which could motivate others to make the leap.
