John Terry and Rafa Benitez were involved in a bust up yesterday at Chelsea‘s training complex.
It is thought that the argument took place before training after the interim boss called the team in to discuss their 2-0 loss to Man City on Sunday, as reported by The Sun.
Benitez blamed the team for the loss and told the players that he believes that they have failed to grasp tactics and that there was a lack of effort during the game. He also suggested that the team were to blame for their previous manager’s demise due to their attitude.
After demanding a response from the team captain John Terry spoke up and the discussion ended in a row.
A witness said “It all kicked off between JT and Benitez as their frustrations over Sunday boiled over into a big bust-up.”
Terry who was dropped for the game, defended his team and said that it wasn’t down to the players and suggested that it was in fact Rafa’s fault stating ‘We won the European Cup with this team,’. He also confirmed to Rafa that other players had concerns regarding his managing style.
The discussion then erupted into a row and other players joined in reminding Rafa that they as a team have won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups as well as the Champions League last season.
This incident is a glimpse into how the relations between team and manager aren’t as they should be. Chelsea have played down the incident and said that training continued as normal.
