Mattia Destro will not be joining Chelsea in a swap deal involving Fernando Torres, according to the Roma striker’s agent.
The Blues were this morning linked with a player plus cash deal for the Italian, amid suggestions that Jose Mourinho is keen another new forward in to compete with Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.
And with the Portuguese coach having lost faith in the much-maligned Torres – who cost the club a baffling £50m in 2011 – talk of a swap made reports.
However Destro’s representative, Renzo Contratto, has moved to quell talk that his client will be making a move to Chelsea – even though they are interested – dismissing the situation as just “speculation”:
“It’s true that Chelsea are interested in Mattia. But the reports regarding a swap deal have no foundation, it’s all speculation,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.
“Roma don’t want to sell Mattia and Mattia prefers to remain at Roma.”
Tottenham have also been linked with Destro, with rumours having suggested that the Serie A giants are open to offers of around £20m.
The 23-year-old was Roma’s top scorer last season with 13 goals and has been capped five times at international level – although he was not a part of the Azzurri’s World Cup squad.
