Saints midfielder in centre of transfer battle

Chelsea are ready to fight Manchester United for Adam Lallana’s signature, according to the Daily Star.

The Southampton midfielder has been in fine form this season, earning a call up to the England squad, with many tipping him to make the flight to Brazil in the summer for the World Cup.

His strong performances have also linked him with a move to Manchester United, who are in need of new midfielders for next season. The current champions have lost 10 matches this campaign, and their current midfielders have been scrutinised heavily by many pundits.

But it seems Jose Mourinho is ready to fight United for Lallana, who is contracted to the St. Mary’s club until 2018. It might not be the only time Chelsea and United battle for the signature of a Saints star, with Luke Shaw expected to be in the centre of a bidding war between the two.

Chelsea are hoping that their offer of Champions League football, something United seem unlikely to have next season, will play a role in convincing the English midfielder. Lallana would have to fight Oscar, Hazard, Willian, Schurrle, Ramires, Mohamed Salah for a place in the Stamford Bridge starting eleven, whilst a guaranteed place in the United team seems more likely.
