It was hardly his best performance in a Chelsea shirt, but when it mattered most Demba Ba managed to deliver. Capitalising on Steven Gerrard's slip, the forward strode through on goal and confidently finished past Simon Mignolet. After the match, Jose Mourinho praised the striker for doing 'fantastically for his goal, staying cool against a good goalkeeper.'

Ba's strike at Anfield was the latest in a number of recent vital contributions. Goals against Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea City kept Chelsea alive in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.

But despite this impressive goalscoring return in recent weeks, Ba may find himself back amongst the substitutes for the visit of Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Fernando Torres was preferred for the first leg and Mourinho may plump for the Spaniard once again.

Should Ba start? A quick search on Twitter reveals that many Chelsea fans believe that the "Special One" should stick with the Senegalese striker after his goal at Anfield.

Ba has netted three times in Europe in five appearances this season, with four of those coming from the bench. Having delivered in such a crucial match at the weekend, it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho agrees with these fans and selects the striker come Wednesday.
