Chelsea are usually adverse to ageing signings but they could be willing to make an exception for Barcelona star Javier Mascherano.
Being capable of playing in defensive midfield or at centre-back, the infamously tenacious Argentine would be an interesting replacement for PSG-bound David Luiz.
He’d bring a wealth of experience to the Stamford Bridge roster too – the 29 year-old has two La Liga titles and a Champions League title on his CV, and is well acquainted with the ways of the English top flight, having amassed 110 Premier League appearances from prior spells with West Ham and Liverpool.
Furthermore, having spent four terms at the Nou Camp, it’s believed Barcelona are keen to move the veteran midfielder-come-defender on this summer.
The Metro believe the 93-cap Argentine could be available for as little as £9million. But Mascherano has been strongly mooted with an Anfield return, whilst former Liverpool (and Chelsea) gaffer Rafa Benitez is keen to bring him to Napoli.
