Chelsea have (as usual) splashed the cash over the transfer window this summer.

They’ve already signed Atletico Madrid pair Diego Costa and Filipe Lius along with former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Atletico Madrid loanee goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also returns to Stamford Bridge, which has Jose Mourinho’s men seemingly ready for the new season.

Yet they are still being linked with big moves for several players, which the Blues will do well to avoid purchasing before the end of the month.

So, with that in mind, here are SIX PANIC BUYS Chelsea should avoid this summer.

Radamel Falcao

It seems that in every transfer window, Falcao is linked with a move to Chelsea. And it’s quite reasonable, due to the Blues’ strikers not being able to find the net on a consistent basis.

However with Diego Costa in the squad and Didier Drogba as back-up, there is no need to pay another huge sum to bring in another target man.

Falcao may be a player of incredible ability, but Chelsea have resolved their issues up front and would be a waste of funds to buy a player of that calibre to rotate with a place on the bench.

Edinson Cavani

Like Falcao, Cavani is also an extremely talented front man that would walk into any of the Premier League’s first team squads.

He is tenacious, passionate, and can score goals. Cavani has 129 goals in the past four seasons, and would perfectly fit into Jose Mourinho’s system.

But again, the purchase of Costa already gives Mourinho a player of that ilk. It would be un-wise to spend such a huge amount (roughly £40m) for him this summer, which would only cause disharmony with the front-men both vying to start as the lone-front striker for the Blues.

Sami Khedira

While Arsenal are the team heaviest linked with the German, Chelsea have also expressed the desire to lure the player to Stamford Bridge.

Boss Jose Mourinho coached the midfielder back in his days at Real Madrid, and it was his hope to reunite with the World Cup winner this season.

Chelsea however don’t need another midfielder, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, Ramires, Oscar, and even John Obi Mikel all challenging for the central midfield role.

With Khedira not desperate to make the move, Mourinho can even wait till January to agree on a free transfer when his Real Madrid contract expires in only a year’s time.

Raphael Varane

Another former player for Mourinho, Raphael Varane is undoubtedly a target for his former boss.

The Portuguese managers signed Varane from Lens back in 2011 and the French youngster has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the game... and he’s only 21.

His value is already set at an upwards of £20million, and if was to arrive will only again be rotated for his huge fee.

John Terry still has a good couple of years left in him, which will allow Jose to keep tabs on Varane until the time is right to replace his long-serving captain.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

Chelsea’s obsession to sign wingers is quite apparent, with Eden Hazard, Willian, Andre Schurrle, Mohamed Salah, and Victor Moses all queuing up to have a run on the flanks.

Although Lavezzi has performed magnificently every time he has faced Chelsea, the PSG attacker is reaching 30 and is set to lose the pace that has made him so deadly the past seasons.

He will also not come cheap along with a high wage demand and will most likely sit on the bench as Hazard starts on the left with Mourinho rotating his right wing options.

Lavezzi is frankly not good business for the Blues, although he may be very popular with the fans.

Joao Miranda

Manchester United are rightfully linked with a majority of centre-backs in the football world, but Chelsea’s interest in Miranda is bewildering.

Yes Miranda is an accomplished defender that aided Atletico Madrid to their league success last year, however by no means is he an upgrade to any of Chelsea’s current centre-backs.

The Brazilian is already 29 years of age, not a player for the future like that of Raphael Varane.

The move is now unlikely to happen with Miranda already rejecting a Premier League move to stay with the La Liga champions, but we doubt that many at Stamford Bridge are too concerned.
