De Bruyne has barely featured for Chelsea since signing for £6.7million two years ago, but somehow the Blues look set to make a profit of over £11million for his sale.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen, where his impressive performances caught the attention of several clubs.
However he returned to Chelsea in the summer with high hopes on making an impact in the first team, and impressed after starting the Blues’ opening day victory over Hull City.
The Belgian has since fallen way down the Stamford Bridge pecking order however, and has seen his performances and attitude publicly questioned by Jose Mourinho.
He has long been linked with a January move away from Stamford Bridge after managing just two league starts during the first half of the season.
De Bruyne has ambitions of playing for his country at the summer’s World Cup, and was previously advised by team mate Eden Hazard to seek a move in order to save his place in the national team.
Chelsea had originally demanded a whopping £25million for his services, but now look set to accept Wolfsburg’s offer of £18million.
