Next month England will host Brazil in a friendly to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Football Association. The match is the first event to feature as part of the year-long celebration and while many will be looking back at some of the historical landmark achievements, it’s imperative that Roy Hodgson picks a team based on merit rather than reputation.
There are constant cries for England to replicate the playing philosophy treasured by Spain, but I would rather see the national team copy the values behind this new look Brazil. The Canarinho have discarded the egotistical old guard and instead nurtured raw talent coming through the ranks.
