Antonio Conte's Chelsea have started well, relatively. Considering the abhorrent calamity of Jose Mourinho's start to the 2015/16 season, the Blues have looked assured so far (comparatively).

The need for late goals, the unsurprisingly shaky defence and glaring weaknesses in the team are naturally going to be a concern. There's little that could have been done about this so far, though. Conte/Chelsea have failed to secure targets in the areas of their team that need the most strengthening and the squad looks frail in parts.

So many sides still need to spend this summer, but perhaps none more so than Chelsea. If they are to get even close to the Premier League title that their fans will so desperately crave, they need more, a lot more.

We've reached that part of the window where all we can expect is chaos. Fees will probably be higher than ever before, so expect some lunatic bidding and some fax machine antics.

As Chelsea continue to pursue Serie A-based targets, we reckon they should take a look at these fellas from the bottom half of the Premier League...

Scott Dann

Scott Dann's excellent first half of the season was largely forgotten about whilst Palace were in the greatest of slumps during the second half of the campaign. Aside from the fact this was mainly down to the lack of midfield protection, Dann was hardly culpable for much of the decline of the team.

If Chelsea cannot secure a younger centre-back, Scott Dann could be a shrewd alternative. The Blues are at risk of missing out on Koulibaly in the same way they did with Stones last summer, but they simply cannot afford not to sign a defender.

He may not be the ball-player that Conte desires, but Dann would be better than not signing a central defender - which looks worryingly likely.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Creativity is an age-old issue for Chelsea. Shoehorning Cesc Fabregas into the side has become a great debate since Conte's arrival. If the Italian is to continue with a 4-3-3, Sigurdsson could slot into either a wide playmaker role on the right, or as the third midfielder.

This might be a bit of a wildcard, but the Icelandic attacking midfielder is one of the greatly under-rated talents in the Premier League. Even in Swansea's troubled 2014/15 season, Sigurdsson found the net 11 times, as well as notching three assists, showing he could provide invaluable goals from midfield for the Blues.

One concern would be Sigurdsson's less than feisty nature out of possession, but his eye for a pass and ability to find the net from the most extraordinary positions would certainly offer something to the Chelsea squad.

Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson (centre)

Unfortunately, injury curtailed Wilson's debut Premier League season. However, he showed he could deal with the step up before that knock, finding the net five times in just nine starts. The quality to cope with the Premier League is certainly there and it would give Antonio Conte to work with.

With Bertrand Traore out on loan, a cheaper signing may be made for Chelsea's third centre forward and Wilson should come in to consideration (along with Berahino). He has the pace to hang on the shoulder of the last defender, which would work well alongside the direct Diego Costa.

The Bournemouth forward is still only 24, too. He has his best years ahead of him and could become a crucial member of the squad, which lacks a really electric front man.
