After his calls for a top class striker last season, Jose Mourinho looks to have got his man in the shape of Diego Costa. The burly Spaniard arrived over the summer in a £32m deal from Atletico Madrid, with his reputation at a real high following a 36-goal haul for the Rojiblancos as the clinched the league title.

Although Costa had a poor World Cup – as was the case for man of La Roja’s players – he notched four efforts in pre-season and carried that form into the Blues’ opening win of the Premier League campaign with a vital equaliser against Burnley.

Good start then, right? Well we at FFC Towers think he could get even better, with the title as the division’s top forward up for grabs following Luis Suarez’s Liverpool exit. Costa to be top dog? Maybe…

Creativity behind him

Any forward on the planet would have been licking his lips as Cesc Fabregas popped ball of the season (early, I know) to Andre Schurrle against Burnley. With the silky pass-master in behind him, Costa is sure to get plenty of chances as he leads the line for the Blues, most of which he should dispatch. Oh, and there’s also Oscar, Eden Hazard, Willian, Schurrle and a few others ready to create, too.

“(Football is) about scoring goals, getting behind, and that is for strikers, real strikers. And I had to try.

These were the words of Mourinho after his side lost in the Champions League to PSG. Damning stuff.

So with Costa in he will be the main man, pure and simple. The focal point of title favourites means goals, surely?

27 La Liga goals saw Costa trail only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the goal-getting charts last season, which is mightily impressive given the world’s two twos’ records in recent times.

If that form can be translated there is no reason why he cannot take the Premier League by storm and lead the scoring charts. Daniel Sturridge bagged 21 to make him the division’s current heavyweight now Suarez has left, so Costa is, in theory, the most prolific man out there…
