The counter-attacking style that Jose Mourinho has implemented since his return to Stamford Bridge makes Chelsea formidable opponents in cup competitions. The staunch defence that won them the competition in 2012 remains in place, but it has now been alloyed with a devastatingly quick counter.
While playing such a reactive style is not so effective for an elite team in league football, there are no such problems when it comes to the knockout form of the game. Chelsea have been at their best this season when against quality opposition as it allows them to play to their strengths. And there are certainly no Crystal Palaces remaining in the Champions League draw.
