This was a much closer contest than anyone expected. Jose Mourinho talked of a draw being a good result before the game but I don't think even he himself believed that. Credit to Maribor though, who were not afraid to attack Chelsea. Here are the Three things we learned from Chelsea's 1-1 draw in Maribor:

Beware of the Drog no more

Mourinho's decision to resign one of the old guard is looking increasingly questionable. You wouldn't normally think of the Chelsea manager as a sentimental type but there seems little other reason for bringing Drogba back.

Chelsea inflexible

It was a surprise to see Mourinho switch to a back three in the second half and his defence's performance showed why. Mourinho's teams aren't known for their flexibility and this Chelsea incarnation are no different.

Hazard still deserves praise

Chelsea looked more like the Chelsea of last season with Hazard the only player on the pitch who appeared capable of creation. The Belgian may have missed a penalty that could have won his team the game but the forward should still be commended for his performance.
