When the Egyptian international first signed for the Blues last year, it was widely suspected that Mohamed Salah would be nothing more than a ‘flash in the pan’ type signing for Jose Mourinho in his quest to emulate his previous spell at Stamford Bridge. The former Basel man certainly showed promise for his age, but as his lack of game time in the Premier League seemed to all but confirm the question marks surrounding the 22-year-old, with most fans being forgiven for forgetting about the tricky winger altogether.

Salah has since been given a chance to re-establish himself within European football as part of the deal that saw La Viola’s Colombian World Cup star make the switch to West London. His form for the Serie A outfit has so far been very impressive to say the least, as with three league goals already recorded for his new loan club, the promising attacker really does seem to be staking his claim for another shot under Mourinho.

With all things considered though, should Mohamed Salah continue to pursue his career as a Chelsea player, or does an exit away from Stamford Bridge ultimately represent a brighter future for the rapidly rising star?

The young Egyptian favourite certainly isn’t short of talent. The attacking midfielder displays smart intelligence with his off-ball movement, can provide an efficient link between his side’s midfield and attack and – as his recent exploits in the Europa League are starting to prove – the Chelsea loanee really can transform into a deadly force when he does his thing in the final third.

Against Tottenham in Europe’s somewhat less attractive club tournament, Mohamed Salah really did put his talents in the shop window for onlookers to admire. He was a constant goal threat for a Spurs side to deal with who were trying desperately to keep things tight at the back. As the Egyptian eventually broke through Mauricio Pochettino’s back four however, the signs of his potential are really now starting to become obvious.

Yet with past reports in the Daily Star going as far as labelling Salah a ‘flop’ for his inability to perform at Chelsea, the winger’s next career move must be one made out of rationality rather than romance. Whilst he certainly could do the business for Jose Mourinho should the Blues boss ever see fit to give the former Basel man a real crack at the whip, the young Egyptian star would likely be better off forgetting about Chelsea all together.

The likes of Marko Marin and Victor Moses make up just some of the senior loan players currently experiencing a great deal more game time away from the high-flying Premier League outfit – and as Ryan Bertrand has recently made his switch to Southampton a permanent one in light of his strong run in the Saints team - Mohamed Salah would be well served by learning from the decisions of his former Blues teammates. Chelsea simply rinse Europe of it's most promising talent just because they can. There seems to be no real plan installed in some of their most recent transfer activity - but as the money continues to flow down in West London this season - none of that really seems to matter within the club's hierarchy.

With a place in the Chelsea’s starting XI seemingly likely to elude the current Fiorentina man for a good while longer, first team action should simply remain at the forefront of the winger’s mind at this crucial stage in his career.

Put in no uncertain terms, Mohamed Salah certainly seems to be thriving in Serie A at the moment – and although he could one day be needed by Mourinho should the Portuguese coach finally show some faith in the midfielder – the former Basel favourite will likely become an all-round better player away from the expensively filled subs bench at Stamford Bridge.
