After watching their latest new signing successfully set-up an assist and get on the score-sheet himself last time out, the Stamford Bridge faithful would seemingly have to be forgiven for their current Pedro-fuelled excitement this week. Chelsea once again look to have dramatically improved their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

On his debut against West Brom last weekend, the 28-year-old Spaniard truly took to his new found set of Premier League duties with a certain fire in his belly. The Baggies simply couldn’t cope with the quick-footed former Barcelona man, despite their constant attempts to halt Pedro in his increasingly rapid progress.

So then, with the vast majority of the 2015/16 campaign obviously still left to be played for the English top-flight this season, just how successful will Jose Mourinho’s latest foray into the transfer market turn out to be?

Will Pedro ultimately prove the real deal for Chelsea, or was his admittedly fine debut performance actually somewhat of a red heron in terms of what the player will eventually produce at Stamford Bridge this term?

Well, as the many joyous Blues fans out there would certainly be keen on letting the rest of their Premier League brethren know this week, their team seemed to have signed one of the best players currently operating on the world stage at the minute. Yes, Pedro may never be shone in the same light as the likes of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo any time soon of course – but among that somewhat less recognised second tier of world class talent on offer in the modern game – the 28-year-old Spaniard definitely doesn’t look out of place.

In his latest summer signing, Jose Mourinho has successfully landed a player not only brimming in technical prowess, but also someone who has been there and done it before at both club and international level. Including a highly sought after UEFA European Championship title, several Champions League and La Liga accolades, as well as one illustrious World Cup medal received in 2010 – Pedro’s honours list certainly remains a satisfactory one with all things considered.

And it’s no surprise either. When it comes to testing the opposition’s back-four for the entire 90 minutes with his seemingly flawless ball-control, dropping deep to pick up possession effectively off his teammates, as well as scoring some pretty impressive efforts in and around the penalty area at a fairly frequent rate, Pedro is a player that rarely disappoints.

Whilst his past form for Barcelona has nonetheless also shown him to be an out-in-out diver and cheat when things aren’t particularly going his team’s way, Chelsea fans will undoubtedly chose to see past such transgressions considering the fact that Diego Costa has already been warmly welcomed in at Stamford Bridge.

So then, when it was first announced that Pedro had opted to join the Blues ahead of any other hopeful Premier League team this summer, Manchester United supporters must have felt disheartened to say the very least. The Red Devils had been heavily linked with the former Barca man in the run up to the 2015/16 campaign – and whilst his potential switch to Old Trafford did in-fact seem likely by all accounts – in the end, Jose Mourinho simply must have been more convincing than his counter-part in the Manchester United dug-out.

Such a dramatic turn of events in this summer’s ever-changeable transfer window simply serves to outline the increasing gap between Chelsea and Man United in the modern era. It seems the endless banks off Russian wealth on offer behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge have finally ousted the once untouchable pulling power at Old Trafford, now that Roman Abramovich’s riches have been in place long enough to have a meaningful impact on hierarchy of the Premier League.

Therefore, even when such wider issues in the modern game are temporary put to the side, Pedro’s recent arrival at Stamford Bridge is a great move for the club in nearly every aspect. He will provide Mourinho with an important update on both Oscar and Willian in all honesty, which should definitely renew some hope in and around the team after such a shaky start to the 2015/16 campaign.

What Pedro’s emergence at Chelsea means for the recently acquired Juan Cuadrado's long-term future at Stamford Bridge however, so far remains to be decided...
