During his time in the Premier League, former Newcastle star and current PSG bench-warmer – Yohan Cabaye – certainly won many fans over in the English game for his range of skills across the pitch and wholly entertaining style.

The St. James’ Park faithful paid witness to a real talent whilst the Frenchman plied his trade for Newcastle United, and although his current spell with Ligue 1 giants, PSG, has hardly gone according to plan for the creative midfield man, the now 29-year-old still must be seen as a great asset of the modern game.

In light of his lack of game time at the Parc des Princes stadium throughout 2014/15, Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on saving Cabaye from his current fate in France, and bringing him back to the Premier League in pretty ambitious style.

As the player himself has reportedly welcomed the chance to reunite with former boss, Alan Pardew, it seems this particular transfer rumour may have more potential than most would have initially expected.

However, with West Ham also supposedly interested in the classy Frenchman this summer – are Crystal Palace really on the verge of completing one of the biggest coups of the current transfer window, or will they ultimately be pipped at the post by their London rivals in the east end?

Well for one thing, fans of the Premier League in general will certainly be excited by the potential return of Yohan Cabaye should this move eventually take place in the next few months. The former Lille favourite displayed some sheer class on the ball during his time with the Magpies – and although his prior £20 million move to PSG did seem a little inflated to say the least – no one could accuse the French international of ever lacking quality in his overall game.

When it comes to taking long shots from outside the box, showing real expertise in regards to set pieces, and utilizing one of the best ranges of passing the Premier League has seen in a long while – Yohan Cabaye certainly seems to know what he’s doing. The composed midfielder very rarely loses possession in the middle of the park, always links up effectively with his teammates in the heart of the midfield, and often proves one of the main assisters for any side that he has ever represented.

The 29-year-old showed himself to be a real orchestrator of the play during his time at St. James, and although his somewhat inevitable lack of game time at PSG always looked like it was seemingly on the cards, the talented Frenchman still has enough time to re-emerge on the European footballing scene under more refreshed circumstances.

And it could be Crystal Palace that ultimately give Cabaye that chance. Playing just behind the likes of Wilfred Zaha and Yannick Bolasie for Alan Pardew’s new attacking Eagles outfit, the former Newcastle man could certainly do a job for the Selhurst Park faithful, and likely raise the profile of the club just through his presence alone.

It would be an absolutely massive signing for Palace if the plucky Londoners somehow pull this one off. Alan Pardew clearly deserves great credit for trying to push through such a deal, for under the somewhat less attractive days of Tony Pulis and Neil Warnock, the thought of signing someone as entertaining as Yohan Cabaye would seem laughable at best.

Having said that though, West Ham under the new management of Slaven Bilic may just prove a better overall opportunity for the current PSG man in the cold light of day.

The Hammers are going into the new season full of renewed confidence after parting ways with Sam Allardyce, the prospect of playing in the Europa League could prove tempting for any player looking to find a new club next term – and with the approaching move to the Olympic Stadium soon on the way for the east enders – maybe Crystal Palace simply aren’t operating in the same ball park when it comes to landing new stars this summer.

However, with West Ham recently acquiring the services of Sampdoria’s Pedro Obiang, and publicly stating their continued interest in a certain Alex Song next season, maybe there will no longer be a need for someone like Yohan Cabaye at Upton Park next season if the club manage to land their preferred targets in the run up to the new campaign.

Crystal Palace therefore stand a great chance of signing the experienced Frenchman this summer, and could well complete the biggest transfer coup of the summer if this particular deal eventually takes place.
