Everton boss Roberto Martinez says that he is keen to keep on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku at the club beyond this summer.
The Belgian ace is currently at Goodison Park on a season-long basis from Chelsea, and has been one of the Toffees’ star players in a fine campaign.
Despite him having hit 13 Premier League goals, the Londoners are believed to be willing to offload the 20-year-old during the next transfer window, which has alerted Everton.
But many have expressed doubts as to whether or not the Merseysiders will be able to make Lukaku’s stay a permanent one, with a host of bigger clubs – including Tottenham – said to be willing to pay upwards of £20m for his signature.
But Martinez believes that the young striker is content where he is, and that he may well stay:
“He’s a grounded and intelligent young man, who is not going to be swayed by the materialistic aspect of the game.” He is quoted by The Mirror.
“What can we offer him? Just enjoying his football.
“As a player, happiness is something that is very important. When you can offer football happiness it’s an incredible opportunity.”
Although Lukaku appears to be happy at Everton, staying at the club may hinge on their ability to qualify for the Champions League.
