Everton are closing in on a deal to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Goodison Park, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The burly Belgian striker spent last season on Merseyside during a successful loan stint, but has since returned to west London.
Lukaku has been linked with moves to a host of European clubs, yet now it has emerged that Everton are at the front of the queue.
Roberto Martinez has made getting the 21-year-old back his top priority for this summer, and is understood to be on the verge of agreeing a deal – which may be formalised in the coming 48 hours.
With Chelsea demanding upwards of £20m, it’s likely that the youngster will make another loan move with a view to a potential full transfer.
Everton had considered Demba Ba – also of Chelsea – but the Senegalese forward’s £80,000-per-week wage demands were deemed too large for the club.
A deal to bring Lacina Traore back on loan from Monaco is also being worked on.
