Everton are considering Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck as a back-up option to Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to reports from The Express.

The Toffees’ main priority ahead of the coming transfer window is believed to be keeping hold of the on-loan Chelsea star, but rumours suggest that they may struggle to do so.

Lukaku himself is eyeing Champions League football and is valued at over £20m, which may both work against Everton.

As a result the Merseysiders are looking at alternatives, and are rumoured to be keen on Welbeck.

Reports emerged last weekend that the England international has grown unsettled at Old Trafford and that he is ready to leave in a bid to play more regularly.

Talk of an exit has since been further boosted, with the managerial upheaval at United leaving the futures of squad players such as the 23-year-old up in the air.

Roberto Martinez sees the pacey and strong finisher as a potentially wise addition to his ranks as he looks to prepare for life in either the Champions League or Europa League on the back of a fine campaign.

However Welbeck is likely to be valued at around £20m, which may be a stumbling block for the Spaniard.
