City currently trail Liverpool by three points at the top of the table, but with a game in hand and a superior goal difference they know that they are almost guaranteed to be crowned champions if they claim three more victories.
But their next tie is away at Goodison Park, which is a ground they have struggled at in recent seasons.
Everton themselves are chasing a top four finish, but with their hopes dependant on Arsenal slipping up, Gray believes that many of their fans will be keen to see their side lose to hinder their rivals from across Stanley Park:
“Peter Reid and I were talking about it and we think maybe Evertonians for once in their life may not be too upset if they get beat this week,” he told talkSPORT.
“The players will try and do their job the best they can but I’ve got a funny feeling many thousand Evertonians, for one week only, will not mind if they lose the game.”
Gray also believes that if City win at Everton they will be champions:
“If they win at Goodison, they will win the title.
“I don’t think they will drop a point in their two remaining games against West Ham and Villa. I think the title rests purely on what happens at Goodison.”
