The Toffees made their loan star of last term a full-time Toffee last week in a club record deal with Chelsea.
Lukaku was, arguably, Everton’s top performer last term as he netted 15 goals in the blue shirt, and his permanent signing has been met with jubilation at Goodison Park.
While one club in the city has kept their star forward, the other have lost theirs, with Liverpool having sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75m.
Since the exit of the Uruguayan, Brendan Rodgers has spent over £80m on six new players, but with a fresh look to his squad and European football now on the agenda, it’s unknown as to how they will cope next term.
Osman, 33, believes that Lukaku’s arrival could be enough to ensure they usurp their foes in 2014/15:
“Signing Romelu is absolutely great news and, yes, we can finish higher than Liverpool. It’s going to be difficult though.” He told the Daily Star.
“Liverpool have strengthened but so have Everton. We both have extra commitments with Europe this year but we aim to finish above them every season.
“It’s great that the club have shown their ambitions going forward.”
