Famed for their efficiency in the transfer market under David Moyes and now seemingly entering a new era aided by the funds of Farhad Moshiri, Everton's transfer history is rather unique.

Indeed, Moyes defied the limits of finance for years to keep the Toffees in the top half, whilst Moshiri's fortunes were put to good use in the summer as Ronald Koeman oversaw his first transfer window at the Goodison Park helm.

Resultantly, the alumni of Everton signings throughout the Premier League era is as vast and varied as it gets in terms of both cost and quality. And for every astute acquisition, there's been a small handful of absolute transfer duds.

Take Everton's 10 most expensive signings of all time, for instance. We've been delving through the Toffees' 10 biggest acquisitions, courtesy of our mates at TransferMarkt.co.uk, and by our estimations, there's been six impressive hits and four epic flops.

10. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov

bili

Much was expected of £8.5million winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov after a series of impressive campaigns with Lokomotiv Moscow, but he never quite lived up to his billing in the Premier League. The Russian midfielder made just 59 Premier League appearances across three seasons before returning to Moscow - this time with Spartak.

Verdict: Flop

9. Andy Johnson

Everton v Queens Park Rangers - FA Cup Third Round

Four impressive years at Crystal Palace, including a 21-goal haul in the Premier League, earned Andy Johnson a spate of England caps and a £9.35million move to Goodison Park in 2006. But the striker couldn't quite produce the same level of form for Everton and was sold to Fulham, admittedly at a slight profit, just two years later.

Verdict: Hit (but only because the Toffees made their money back)

8. Ramiro Funes Mori

Ramiro Funes Mori

Billed as a centre-back who would fit Roberto Martinez's philosophy perfectly, Everton shelled out almost £11million on Ramiro Funes Mori. But he was a regular part of a Toffees backline that continually capitulated last season and has since found himself marginalised by Ronald Koeman. Overall, the move to the Premier League hasn't worked out for the Argentine.

Verdict: Flop

7. Ashley Williams

Ashley Williams block

A considerable upgrade on the aforementioned Ramiro Funes Mori, Everton paid just £1million more for Ashley Williams during the summer. The Premier League veteran has added real steeliness, experience and organisation to Everton's defence and is already establishing himself as a bit of a fan favourite.

Verdict: Hit

6. James McCarthy

James McCarthy

James McCarthy followed Roberto Martinez to Goodison Park from Wigan in summer 2013 and made an immediate impression on the starting XI. But the Irishman's influence has waned since, with injuries limiting his first-team opportunities. The £13million signing has made just two Premier League starts this term.

Verdict: Flop

5. Yakubu

Reading v Leeds United - Sky Bet Football League Championship

Feed the Yak and he will score. The veteran striker proved that with every Premier League club he joined, except perhaps Everton. Indeed, after netting 15 times during his debut campaign, the Nigerian bagged just ten goals in the next two-and-a-half years and was loaned out to Leicester City before permanently signing for Blackburn Rovers.

Verdict: Hit - but a debatable one.

4. Oumar Niasse

Oumar Niasse

Probably the biggest flop on this list, Oumar Niasse has managed just five Premier League appearances since moving to Merseyside from Lokomotiv Moscow in January - setting the club back around £15million. Ronald Koeman made it abundantly clear during the summer that the striker wouldn't fit into his plans, but he remains on the books at Goodison Park.

Verdict: Flop

3. Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini v Liverpool

David Moyes splashed out an unprecedented £18.5million on Marouane Fellaini back in 2008 and the Toffees certainly got their money's worth. The towering Belgian proved himself in both offensive and defensive midfield roles, including one eleven-goal season in the Premier League, before moving to Manchester United at a cost of £27.5million. Not bad business, to say the least.

Verdict: Hit

2. Yannick Bolasie

Bolasie

Ronald Koeman's largest outlay thus far as Everton boss, the Dutchman shelled out £24.75million on Yannick Bolasie during the summer. Many baulked at the price-tag but he's certainly added something to Everton's attack and the early signs are very promising, with a first goal for the Toffees against Burnley last weekend.

Verdict: Hit

1. Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku and Ronald Koeman

Romelu Lukaku remains Everton's club-record signing but has certainly proved good value for money at £30million, going on to bag 49 goals in 112 Premier League appearances for the Toffees - including six so far this season. The Belgium international was a sound investment and could secure Everton an incredible sell-on fee a few years down the line.

Verdict: Hit
