Everton midfielder Gareth Barry made his 600th Premier League appearance on Saturday when the Toffees faced Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough at Goodison Park - a milestone which he marked with a goal.

The England international's career, which has spanned nearly two decades, began at Aston Villa, where he made his professional debut against Sheffield Wednesday in May 1998 as a central defender.

Now a central midfielder, the Hastings born man made the move to big spenders Man City in 2009 after eleven years at Villa Park. In his time in Manchester, Barry won an FA Cup in 2011 and the Premier League title in 2012.

Having enjoyed a successful spell with the Sky Blues, he saw fit to move on with first-team chances fading at The Etihad, and Everton was his destination. Ever since his move two years ago, Barry has been a central feature in the midfield at Goodison Park and looks to be for a few more years at least.

The former Villa man is now part of a very exclusive club alongside Ryan Giggs and former England teammate Frank Lampard, who are the only other two players to have broken the 600 appearance barrier in the Premier League.

Having had such a long career to date the first thought on everyone's mind is, of course, what has happened since he made that first appearance for Villa? Well, never fear, we've got you covered. Here are FIVE things which are younger that the midfielder's career...

The Two Pound coin

twopound

A part of everyday life for as long as some people can remember, the Two-Pound coin came into circulation just a month after Barry made his Premier League bow for Aston Villa, in June 1998.

Unlike the midfielder who has only changed the shirt he wears three times since 1998, the coin, which on one side has featured a profile of Queen Elizabeth II since it's inception, has seen it's reverse design change 39 times.

MK Dons

Stadium MK

The now League One side was created in 2004 as part of the relocation of Wimbledon F.C and began competing under the new name from the 2004/05 season.

With the club only being around 12 years old, there is probably a good chance Gareth Barry has made more appearances in the Premier League than the Dons have played as a club.

MySpace

The social network was launched in August 2003 and was the staple of many late-90s kids' upbringing during it's heyday.

Perhaps the network's biggest success was giving musicians their start in life, with Sheffield-based band Arctic Monkeys using the platform as a way to promote their early music as opposed to signing with a record label.

Chelsea's history

Chelsea fans

A rather sneaky addition to the list. However, the Blues have often been labelled as a club with no history, having achieved their most successful years since Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.

Since the influx of cash, the west London side have won 16 major trophies, including four Premier League titles and a Champions League.

The Europa League

Liverpool v Sevilla - UEFA Europa League Final

Europe's answer to the League Cup has been running under it's current title since the 2009/10 season, and Gareth Barry has played in the competition for both Man City and Everton.

Since it's re-brand there have been six different names on the trophy, however. La Liga outfit Sevilla have held the title of winners for the last three seasons.
