Since Townsend’s rip-roaring England debut, he has stagnated worryingly. Injuries haven’t help his progress, but he had fallen out of favour at Tottenham long before. Martinez has proven himself adept at getting the most out of younger footballers, and Townsend would be a good prospect. He is raw, and still learning, but there is the potential there for him to be a big hit on Merseyside. A slight lack of penetrative wide players at Everton could see Townsend become a key target for Martinez. His current injury means that he will also be available for contract talks this summer, if Spurs would be willing to sell.
