The departure of Romelu Lukaku will be Martinez’s main concern when the season begins after the summer, with a striker his number one transfer priority. He could take a gamble on Columbian Victor Ibarbo, who has a few solid years with Italian club Cagliari.
Although not an out-and-out goalscorer, Ibarbo has great control of the ball and amazing pace. He can also be deployed on the right wing, a position he has played a few times for the Italian side.
Serie-A is a very tactical league, in which teams slowly calculate how to penetrate or defend from their opposition. The Premier League has a much faster pace to it, and a player of Ibarbo’s qualities could be useful in Roberto Martinez’s ranks.
