Well, that game had it all. Goals, a comeback, red cards, controversy and a team putting forward a REAL title statement. We are of course talking about Manchester City 1-3 Chelsea, and itâs fair to say the game we have all billed as the biggest of the weekend delivered. It looked as if the home side were going to go to the top of the table when Gary Cahill put the ball into his own net to make it 1-0, but a staggering comeback via Diego Costa, Willian and Eden Hazard made it eight Premier League wins on the spin for Chelsea, moving them clear at the top of the division and guaranteeing them top spot going into gameweek 15.On top of all this we had a mass brawl brought on by Sergio Agueroâs horrific challenge on David Luiz, which saw the Argentine sent off and Fernandinho also dismissed for his part in the unsavory events that followed. We had the tough job of summing this up, and here are FIVE pictures that doâ¦
Touching stuff from Man City
Sometimes football really needs to be put into perspective, and events earlier this week really did that. We all know of the tragic events in Colombia as an aeroplane containing players and staff from Brazilian side Chapecoenseâs crash-landed, and the world of football has been in mourning.
There have been many touching tributes, and Man Cityâs was special ahead of kick-off today. The Citizensâ players donned shirts with Chapecoenseâs badge and the message âManchester is with youâ. Well in, Man City.
That moment you know youâve made a mistake
Gary Cahill, what were you thinking? Luckily for the England international his horrendous first-half own goal didnât cost his side their winning run, but it remains a talking point still. Instead of clearing a nothing Jesus Navas cross with his left foot, the defender swiveled and connected with his right boot to send the ball flying past a helpless Thibaut Courtois. The picture shows his face at the moment the gaffe hit homeâ¦
Could it be costly?
When Kevin De Bruyne slammed a golden chance against the crossbar, he surely didnât think it would be so costly. The Belgian ace slid in just a few yards from goal, but couldnât poke the ball over the line, and this moment seemed to kick Chelsea into life as they hit a quick-fire double.
Oh, Kevin, what a miss.
Is it 2014/15 again?
Cesc Fabregas returning to the Chelsea XI was a big talking point before kick-off and we all had a snaking feeling the Spaniard would do something special. And that moment came in the second half with his team 1-0 down as he threaded a lovely pass through to Diego Costa, who fired home the equaliser.
The compatriots combined many a time during the Bluesâ 2014/15 title-winning season, so could the same result be on the cards this season?
Magic from Willian
Willian, introduced as a second-half substitute, provided the goal of the game when he expertly finished a blistering counter-attack to make it 2-1. The Brazilian ran the length of the pitch in his trademark, lung-busting fashion to fire the ball past Claudio Bravo, and his celebration was fuelled by emotion as he held aloft his armband in a touching gesture to Chapecoense and those effected by the events of this week.
