There have been some crazy transfer rumours flying around but no one expected Premier League champions Chelsea to show an interest for out-of-form Yaya Toure.

Manchester City are seemingly resigned to the fact that Toure will leave at the end of the season after a tough campaign has seen the former hero endure boos from fans. He is part of an ageing squad and is thought to feel unappreciated and unwanted at the club. At the beginning of May, Toure's agent, Dimitri Seluk, said that he would be "90 percent certain" to leave the Eithad at the end of the season. The Sky Blues would save £220,000 a week in his wages so they will be able to bring in some new, fresh talent. The club are hoping for at least £10 million for the midfielder after they paid £24million for him off Barcelona back in 2010. There have already been rumours that Inter Milan and Paris Saint Germain are interested in Toure, but many fans got a shock when Premier League rivals Chelsea were reported as 'interested'.

The Blues' boss is a big admirer of the Ivory Coast international who is a team mate and friend of Stamford Bridge legend, Didier Drogba. The gaffer believes that Toure still has the determination and power that a player needs in the Premier League and he hasn't been utilised enough by his current club.

It seem's highly unlikely that City would be happy with Toure joining their major rivals, especially as they beat them to the Premier League title this season. It already looks like James Milner will be heading to Liverpool or Arsenal on a free transfer after he refused to sign the new contract City had laid out for him. Inter Milan are apparently keen to get a deal done as soon as possible with it believed they are willing to pay £14.5million for three years. Toure is keen on a longer contract, but they will be willing to add a one year option on of it means they can sign him straight away.

City would certainly prefer Toure to go abroad, but the appeal of the Premier League could mean he goes to their biggest rivals. When it first broke that Chelsea were interested in the 29-year-old it seemed almost unbelievable, but the more people talk about it, it seems more and more likely that it could happen. Mourinho would love to sign a key player from his title rivals and Toure would be a great addition to the Chelsea midfield to bring in a strength and brute power.

City might not like it, but Jose usually gets what Jose wants.
