Normally, when the words 'best in the world' are mentioned the names on everybody’s lips are Messi and Ronaldo.

Yes, they are truly two of the best players the world of football has ever seen, but let’s give credit where credit is due to the three best out and out strikers currently...

3) Luis Suarez - FC Barcelona & Uruguay

Uruguay's highest ever goal scorer and Barcelona's £75million man has just as many fans as critics, but no one can deny the work rate, talent and goal scoring record he possesses. Suarez has made it the hard way, starting his career in his homeland with Nacional before moving onto Dutch Eredivisie side Groningen and later Amsterdam giants Ajax.

After plundering 81 goals in just 110 games for Ajax, he was signed by Liverpool where he continued to excel. In his final season with the reds, Suarez won the PFA Player of the Year Award, the Football Writer’s Award and also the Premier League Golden Boot, with 31 goals in 33 games.

After a biting scandal at the 2014 World Cup, Suarez joined Barcelona. Although he was banned for four months, he didn't take long to make his mark at the Catalan club.

He, along with Lionel Messi, led Barcelona to a historic treble, with Suarez scoring in the Champions League final win and having a total of 25 goals and 20 assists for Barca in his first season. Suarez has started this season, again, well with three goals in his six games and continues to adopt his unique hard working, all action and skilful style which makes him one of the most feared opponents.

2) Sergio Aguero - Manchester City & Argentina

The pocket sized Argentinian started his career in his native homeland with Independiente, becoming the youngest player in history to represent the Argentinian side at the age of 15. His performances in Argentina persuaded Atletico Madrid to sign him for a club record fee. After a year of settling into the Spanish capital, he soon found his feet and was named Fifa Young Player of the Year in 2007. He went on to become an Atletico hero, helping them win the Uefa Intertoto Cup, Europa League and Super Cup.

Aguero left Madrid for Manchester in 2011 for a fee of £38 million and immediately hit the ground running, scoring 23 goals and helping City to win their first Premier League title in 2013.  And he wasn't finished there, the little Argentinian helped City to victories in the Community Shield in 2012 and his memorable injury time goal against QPR will go down in history, as it clinched City their second Premier League title from under the noses of their rivals Manchester United.

His five goals in twenty minutes against Newcastle in the league last Saturday, along with his league best 26 goals last term, have showed what a world class player he is and how, on his day, he can be truly unstoppable by using his turn of pace, amazing touch and lethal finishing.

1) Robert Lewandowski - Bayern Munich & Poland

Lewandowski was relatively unknown until 3/4 years ago when he left Lech Poznan, in his homeland, to join German giants Borussia Dortmund. He started his career at lowly Znicz Pruskow where he became the Polish third and second division top scorer in consecutive seasons and earned a move to Lech. After plundering 32 goals in just 58 games for Lech, Lewandowski was signed by Dortmund for 4.5million Euros.

His 74 goals in 131 games helped Dortmund to one of the most successful spells in their history as they claimed back to back Bundesliga titles, the DFB Pokal trophy and the DFL Supercup trophy. Lewandowski also became the German league's top goal scorer in 2013/14 with 20 Bundesliga goals. Lewandowski joined German rivals Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014, on a free transfer, and what a deal it turned out to be.

It is has been his form, this season, that has really sent Lewandowski to the top of the pack. So far, he has scored a remarkable 16 goals in just 11 games for Bayern Munich and 3 goals in his 2 International games for Poland. What is more unbelievable is that five of his 16 Bayern goals came in just NINE minutes against last season’s league runners up Wolfsburg.

Averaging just over a goal a half this season, it is hard to see how Lewandowski and his Bayern side will be derailed in their bid for another Bundesliga crown, and how his native Poland could fall short of qualification for next year’s European Championships.
