As reported by The Telegraph, Claudio Ranieri is hoping to make Genk defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi his first January signing as he looks to add depth to his title-winning squad.

What's the word?

With their title defence not going as well as hoped, Ranieri is looking to make some key additions to his squad to improve their league standing. With important European games to follow too, it's imperative they do smart business in the January transfer window.

One of those additions could be Wilfred Ndidi, who The Telgraph report could be available from Belgian side Genk for a fee of around £14m.

The paper even go so far to say that the deal is at such an advanced stage that it could be completed and announced in the first week of the January transfer window.

Who is he?

With the ability to play both in the centre of defence and as a defensive midfielder, at just 19 years of age Ndidi is one of the brightest prospects in European football.

The young Genk player has also broken through to the Nigeria international set-up winning two caps by the age of 18.

He doesn't have a lot of experience but in Wes Morgan and Robert Huth he would find two of the most experienced centre-backs in the Premier League to learn from.

He's been in superb form for Genk in this season's Europa League, scoring two goals and helping the Belgians to their nine points total in the group stage.

His versatility is a massive positive for Ranieri who will be looking to maximise any spending power he has in upcoming windows.

If Leicester do indeed sign Ndidi in the first week of January, it's a sign for Leicester fans that the club are going after their top targets and succeeding in delivering the signings that Ranieri wants most, which can only be a positive for everyone involved.
