According to reports from The Daily Mail and Mirror Football, Manchester United will receive a sell-on fee from Burnley defender Michael Keane's next transfer.

What's the word?

It's claimed the Red Devils were very reluctant to see the prodigious defender leave Old Trafford when Burnley acquired his services permanently in January 2015, following a successful six-month loan spell at Turf Moor.

He's since emerged as one of English football's most promising young centre-backs, holding down a crucial role at the heart of the Clarets' backline and rewarded for his form by Gareth Southgate, who called him up to England's squad for recent World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia as a replacement for Glen Johnson after the Stoke City full-back withdrew through injury.

It was previously believed United had nothing to gain from the 23-year-old's significant increase in market value during his near-two-years under Sean Dyche, but Mirror Football and The Daily Mail have both revealed that a sell-on fee was included in the deal that brought him to Burnley - ensuring a windfall from any future sale.

Will he move in the near future?

With the centre-back into the final 18 months of his contract, The Daily Mail believe Burnley will likely to be forced to cash in within the next two transfer windows - a summer move is especially likely if Dyche's boys suffer relegation to the Championship for the second time in four years.

Both sources put Chelsea in the frame to move for Keane and they've been pushing that angle for some time. Amid their defensive struggles in the absence of John Terry, Mirror Football and The Daily Mail have both billed Keane as a prime Blues target in prior reports.

Leicester City have also been mentioned as potential suitors, after reportedly launching a £15million bid for Keane during the summer.

How much do United stand to earn?

Whilst The Mail simply describe it as 'hefty', The Mirror claim Keane's sell-on clause worth 'up to 20%' - although neither source gives a definitive figure.

Burnley saw Leicester's £15million bid as below Keane's worth, whilst Mirror Football have previously claimed Chelsea are prepared to shell out £25million for his services in January. That's a reasonable enough valuation, considering the premium on English players - especially those with Premier League experience who are on the peripheries of the Three Lions squad.

So if we take a happy medium of those two sums, £20million, United stand to gain around £4million from Keane's next move.

However, that's largely dependent on when the defender actually leaves Turf Moor. If a January move doesn't happen and his contract subsequently runs down to its final twelve months next summer, potential suitors will feel they can force Burnley to sell for less.
